After his combat deployment to Afghanistan Keith Nemcoff (founder) started roasting coffee out of an old popcorn popper, in his barracks room on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Pretty soon he had his entire unit coming to him for coffee. One thing led to another and in 2016 The Milk Road was started.

Keith and his friends started The Milk Road not only to roast delicious, small-batch coffee but also to create a space for community connection in Jacksonville, NC. At the heart of The Milk Road is a desire to serve our neighbors whether they be military transplants, Jacksonville natives, or someone passing through. We have created a space to be loved by locals and transplants alike.

A play on The Silk Road, our logo of the three hares has its origins as old as the Road itself. It’s theorized that The three hares symbolized that it was safe for refuge and travel. But over the years has transcended even that. It can be found scattered across the world; from caves in ancient China to the ornate floors & stained glass windows in Europe. The three hares transcends culture and language, connecting people across the world. We believe coffee has that power too. No matter where your travels lead, you will always be able to find refuge if the scent of coffee is near.
